The year 2011 is not quite done with protests yet, as violence again breaks out in Egypt. It is very difficult to really get a good understanding of what is happening from the English language media. The photographs are difficult to interpret as well. Are these pictures typical or unusual? What happened before the violence broke out? What happened afterwards? This is not necessarily a case of "journalists doing a bad job" --- I imagine that they are doing their best. Street violence and protests are just inherently hard to cover; the situation changes so frequently, the leaders come and go, and angry people do not always put out a press release a day in advance to say "we will have a spontaneous mob at x corner tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm."
All the same, I think we can all agree that (THIS) is a sub-par way to get a date.
